6 days and counting
I will be 36 in 6 days. As I've mentioned before, I don't mind getting older. I've had gray hair for many, many years (I found my first gray on Valentine's Day, 1999). I've been a mom for 7 1/2 years. The birthdays are more exciting to the kids. I am sure I'll have to make a cake, and invite some family to come celebrate, because according to Meg, if it's your birthday, you MUST have a party. It's so funny how kids see things. Birthdays are something to be celebrated, not dreaded. Doug tells me I'm on the downside to 40, often. I don't mind that either though. I'm not sure how my own mom feels about me turning 40, but she has a few more years to wrap her head around it. I don't have a list of things that I feel I should "accomplish" before I turn 40. I wonder if I should? I've done quite a bit in the last 35 years. I learned to ride a bike. I learned to play the flute and pretended to play the piano. I tortured spent a great many hours with my brother. I learned to stop butting heads with my parents (for the most part). I got married. I had kids. And more kids. I learned to read. I learned to type. I learned to drive (sorry Mom, those were horrible hours in the Kmart parking lot!). I learned to live on my own. I learned how to cook. I learned that coming home isn't always a bad thing to do. I haven't learned patience yet, so maybe I should put that on a "to do by the time I'm 40 list". Any suggestions for my list?

Plan the Crazy 40th Girlfriend Get-Away with me and Yogagirl! I suggest warm, but not too warm, pampering, eating, sleeping, and decompressing. And maybe professional coverage and shading of grey hairs.
Er, and planning forgiveness that the USPS is going to be late with delivery of muffintop pan, er, I mean surprise B-day present.
I'm going to be 30, er, soonish, and though I logically realize that's not "old" by any means, I am still dreading it. I think once i get past that milestone, I will embrace each year.
I don't think you should put anything on your list. Because, what if (for whatever reason) you can't/don't accomplish something? Why set yourself up to feel bad?
Can you tell that I have made a list, not accomplished parts of it, and then made myself feel bad? ;-)
Have a cake! Celebrate yourself!
What a positive outlook! I'm absolutely miserable about turning 30 soon.....
don't put anything on the list. i suspect you didn't start out 30+ years ago w/ a list: learn to read, learn to ride a bike, etc. and look how well things have turned out : )
I'm with the kids Birthday = Party no matter the age. Maybe I should put patience on my list...but really wouldn't we be completely different people with patience and don't you kind of like yourself? I like you and I only know you from a blog.
To the important part - what kind of cake are you going to make?
This is my list of things to do before I die, which gives me more time than just 40:
1. Free-ballooning
2. Go to Scotland/England
3. Go to New Zealand/Australia
4. Write a novel
5. Get a degree
6. Learn to play the harp
7. White water rafting camp trip
8. Get and use my own little sailboat
9. Give in to wanderlust
It's a growing list but you get the idea. ;) You've already got number 5 done!
